The following files includes a presentation of the results of a large scale questionnaire survey, carried out in Finland in summer 1993, investigating knowledge of and attitudes to computer viruses and virus protection. The main aims of the project were to examine the spread of computer viruses in Finland, to examine virus prevention levels in organisations and to examine the damage computer viruses have caused. The results show that computer viruses are not rare, that they are most widespread in schools and universities, and that most organisations could develop their protection against computer viruses. The study was carried out by Marko Helenius at the University of Tampere and was supervised by Pertti Jrvinen, professor of computer science. The project was financed by LAN Vision Oy and ICL Data Oy and it was made in co-operation with the Ministry of Finance, the Central Criminal Police, the Association of Finnish Local Authorities and the Insurance Group Pohjola.
